"Grizzly Adams" fame actor Dan Haggerty died Friday morning of cancer, said his friend and manager Terry Bomar. He was 73.
Haggerty learned he had cancer of the spine after surgery for back pain in August and pass,ed on at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, Bomar said.
Conceived Nov. 19, 1942, in Los Angeles. His parents wanted him to be a cleric, however Haggerty demonstrated a "wild kid" who "went off track and turned out to be a fast and furious," Bomar said.
As a young fellow he landed a position with a farm in the San Fernando Valley that prepared creatures for motion pictures. He turned into a creature handler, wrangling rabbits and frogs for different film productions, and was a stuntman as an afterthought.
